Youth Exchange is a study-abroad opportunity for young people who spend anywhere from a few weeks to a full year as an international student hosted by local Rotary clubs.

For youth, participating in an international exchange will help you learn about another culture—and yourself—while promoting global understanding.  Furthermore, in the process of being a youth exchange participant, you can learn…about your own country, too.  You share your own culture—its positive and its sometimes debatable aspects—to others. You learn a great deal about your home country.

You have to attend school with the other students and pay attention in every class. At this time you can make life-long friendships.

On the other hand, the more time you spend in foreign countries, the more frequently you use the new language and learn to do so in different contexts and situations. Indeed, this is a great opportunity to expand the knowledge of languages as well.

As you travel to and in the new country, you are on your own for a good part of the time.  This kind of experience teaches you responsibility for yourself and for others, as well.  You have to be resourceful to survive and thrive.  It may seem to be “just like home,” in that you catch a bus to go to school or travel by public transport, but you have to get used to the differences, and thereby, you develop another part of your sense of being part of the local community.

The host family ensures short trips for you to visit famous cities and places around the country. It is an awesome experience that you will remember all your life.

One of the key pieces, I believe, is the idea of “making yourself into a resourceful and mature person who understands the differences between cultures and languages. You will get back your home country as a completely new person. Rotary exchange really changes your life and identity.
